Kanye West gets two years probation for assault

Rapper Kanye West has pleaded no contest and been sentenced to two years probation for assaulting a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.

He must also attend 24 anger management sessions and complete 250 hours of community service for the misdemeanor battery last July.

Paparazzo Daniel Ramos accuses the rapper of punching him and grabbing his camera in an unprovoked attack.

The 36-year-old rapper maintains his innocence.

The plea cannot be used against him in a civil lawsuit brought against him by Ramos, reports the Associated Press news agency.

‘Not safe’

The photographer alleges he still takes medication for injuries from the attack.

“I was doing my job and he broke the law,” Ramos told US media. “If I did what he did to me, I’d be behind bars.”

Ramos also alleged he was fearful of retaliation after comments by West on a TV show in October.

“It’s not safe for you in this zoo,” West told host Jimmy Kimmel when asked about paparazzi.

“Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second.”

West was also arrested in 2008 following another altercation with photographers at the same airport.

That case was dismissed after he paid for their broken equipment and attended anger management counselling.

Earlier this year, the rapper reached a civil settlement with another man he had been accused of assaulting in Beverly Hills.

The man had used a racial slur in an argument with West’s fiancee, Kim Kardashian, according to court papers.

No charges were filed in that instance.

Nollywood Actress Biola Ige Finally Addresses Unclad Photo Of Her On The Internet ( PHOTOS)

Nollywood Actress biola Ige
Here is a press statement from her…

“I was going to remain silent on the photo being displayed on the internet however I realise that I need to set the record straight for my family, friends and fans who i love and respect.
The photo in question was taking from the set of a movie called “PREGNANT HAWKERS” in which i played a Hawker who was in a rom├íntic situation with a man (The actor in the photo). This movie was shot and aired two years ago. The photo circulating the internet right now is the photo from a scene in the movie and NOTHING more. IF you watched the movie you will see that there is nothing to this movie other than the fact that i was playing a role!
I am an actress, it is a profession that i love and will continue to enjoy. I am required to play all sorts of roles. In each role i step out of being Biola Ige and go straight into ‘character’.
Whoever who maliciously leaked this photo to make it appear to be something else has simply given me some great publicity! Thank you!
I have been through a lot of difficult things this year with the loss of my mom and a brief illness,  that a simple photo from a movie scene from 2 years ago is the least of my worries. I have no further comments regarding this act to hurt my character.
I look forward to acting more movies, and playing more roles to entertain you. Thank you all for reading.”

Chris Brown to Spend One Month in Jail after Violating Probation Terms

The troubled star will spend a month behind bars after violating his probation terms.Reuters
Chris Brown will spend a month in jail after being refused bail following a violation of his probation.

According to ibtimes

The 24-year-old singer was arrested on Friday (14 March) after being kicked out of a Malibu rehab centre where he was receiving anger management support TMZ reports.

The star is said to have violated 'internal rules'

A warrant for his arrest was issued and at 2pm the singer was taken into custody by LA county police. The singer was described as cooperative when taken into custody.

He was refused bail and is being held at the Inmate Reception Centre of the Los Angeles County jail.

“The warrant was issued related to assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats crimes which occurred on February 7, 2009, in the City of Los Angeles. The warrant was issued for a probation violation related to his conviction.”
- LA Captain Mike Parker, Los Angeles County Sheriff Headquarters
The warrant was issued for a probation violation following his conviction in February 2009.

LA Captain Mike Parker, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff Headquarters, released a statement saying: "The warrant was issued related to assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats crimes which occurred on February 7, 2009, in the City of Los Angeles. The warrant was issued for a probation violation related to his conviction."

While details of the alleged violation have not been revealed, it was rumoured that the singer had indulged in an "inappropriate relationship" with a female employee at the rehab centre.

Brown was initially ordered to complete a 90 day stay at the facility, but a judge extended this until an assault case against the singer was concluded in Washington D.C.

While he was given permission to leave the grounds a celebration to honour his work with LA community group 2nd Call, Brown was warned that if he were to leave rehab for any other reason, he would be incarcerated.

In October, the Turn Up the Music singer was accused of assaulting Parker Adams, violating his probation, stemming from a violent assault on former girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

He voluntarily checked himself into rehab in Malibu in October but was again kicked out after throwing a rock through his mother's car window.

The troubled star was then ordered to seek anger management at an alternative facility instead of being sentenced to jail.

The singer's criminal trials are set to begin on April 17.

Obesere rape saga: Case moved to SCID

LAGOS — There were indications, yesterday, that the case involving popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Abass Akande, also known as Obesere, arrested for allegedly raping a 29-year-old business woman, Miss Olanike Olaiya, in his Okota residence may have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

Sources told Vanguard, yesterday, that the embattled musician preferred the SCID to the Isolo Police division because the DPO had insisted on the matter going to court. Normally, it is the Divisional Police Officer at Isolo Division, Aminu Ibrahim, that should have ordered the transfer of the case to SCID for further investigations. But Obesere was alleged to have used his contacts in the police to have the case transferred to SCID.

A police source also disclosed that Obesere found it difficult to pressurize the DPO at Isolo into striking out the matter or persuade the victim to accept a settlement. The source, who craved anonymity, also said Obesere contacted some top citizens to wade into the matter by persuading the DPO to soft-pedal on the matter but they backed down when they discovered that the police have incriminating evidence against the musician.

Victim relocates to Sagamu for treatment Meantime, the victim, Olaiya, told Vanguard yesterday that she had relocated to her home town, Sagamu in Ogun State, where she is currently receiving treatment for the rape incident.
Olaiya, who spoke with Vanguard on the telephone, said: “As I speak with you, I am in Sagamu, my home town, where I have been receiving traditional treatment since the incident occurred.
I bled for more than two weeks —Victim
“I bled for more than two weeks after Alhaji Obesere raped me and inserted his ring into my private part. The incident occurred on February 12, 2013 and I have spent a lot of money treating myself. “The DPO, Isolo Police division, took pity on me and refused to give in to Obesere’s pressure to strike out the case and God will bless him for that. “But last week I was informed that the case had been transferred to the SCID and my Investigating Police Office, IPO, at Isolo asked me to come to the station on Tuesday for the transfer. “But when I got to the SCID, I discovered the IPO, who took over the case, one Mr. Jacob, I don’t know his rank, became hostile to me. “You need to see how this man treated me. He started by asking me to write a new statement and when I tried to explain that I had written a statement at Isolo division, he rebuffed my explanation and insisted I wrote a new one.
They threatened to kill me

“Afterwards, they started threatening me. The IPO, Alhaji Obesere, and some of his brothers, who were present there, asked me to stop the journalists from publishing my story and if I don’t, I will be a dead person.

“I was so frightened when they said this and each time my phone rang someone would pick it up to know who was calling. “Later, they discovered I wasn’t going to break, then they started begging me and promised to take care of me. Alhaji Obesere even said he was going to take me to the best hospital for treatment. “At the end, I rose to leave and they offered to drop me in my place. The IPO also insisted that I should follow them. Instead of taking me to my area, they took me to Obesere’s house and the woman who introduced me to him was also there. “While I was with them I alerted the police at Isolo and told them where I was. “But yesterday, they called after they saw the publication and started threatening again to kill me.

“I am highly terrified, that was why I travelled back to my home to get some treatment.”(VANGUARD)

Glo Lafta Fest storms Ebonyi-DETAILS

Nigeria’s leading comedian and television’s comedy visual candy, Bovi, on Sunday sent the residents of Abakaliki reeling with laughter as he mimicked Obama’s political rhetoric with an unmistaken perfection at the Abakaliki edition of Glo Laffta Fest. Bovi tickled the excited audience with his classic joke that juxtaposed a typical Nigerian political rally with that of the United States of America. His flawless parody of Barack Obama at a political rally was the clincher. He got the crowd cheering endlessly and wondering if Bovi was playing a pre-recorded Obama rhetoric. Bovi performed alongside other top Nigerian comedians and East Africa’s most-celebrated comedian, Salvador, from Uganda. The Ugandan cracked up the crowd when he related his native Ugbokolo everyday life experience, focusing on the notoriety of the village rascal, named Ladeja. The Abakaliki edition of Glo Laffta Fest was the loudest bang the city has ever witnessed on the social scene as Glo lined up popular comedians and musicians from within and outside the country to thrill the city’s residents to a potpourri of the best comedy and music at the show. The crowd roared in unison that the show was the most thrilling they had ever witnessed in the city. Basketmouth, the show’s anchorman had stirred the roaring response when he asked in the thick of the fun-filled show that, “Seriously speaking, has any brand given the people of Abakaliki such a loaded show like this before featuring an international comedian, Nigeria’s biggest and best comedians and Nigeria’s music superstars,” to which the thousands of people inside and outside the Nkweagu Ugbala Convention Centre chorused a deafening “no.” Basketmouth, who was impressed by the response, said that “besides Globacom, no other corporate organization rewards its customers like this”. The crowd, among whom was the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Chike Onwe, students and various professionals, concurred. The show kicked off with the sonorous voice of Vinissi, Abakaliki’s best female vocalist and swiftly dovetailed into a series of comedy sessions with 2CanTalk, Parrotmouth, SIM Card, Bash, Gandoki, Julius Agwu, Bovi, Akpororo and Okey Bakassi dishing out spontaneous and contemporary jokes to the delight of the people. Nigeria’s music stars, Chee The Voice, Burna Boy and Mr. Incredible, MI, kept the people on their feet during their different outings with their superlative performances. Chee the Voice was the most improved act of the night with her refined beats, delicious voice and superb utilisation of space. Burna Boy’s energetic performance was electrifying while MI was simply incredible. The crowd loved him and passionately sang every song along with him. The Glo Laffta Fest which kicked off in Lagos six weeks ago has toured Abuja, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Benin and Abakaliki. The show will be held in Enugu this Sunday while Asaba, Uyo and Ibadan will take their turn in subsequent weeks. It is rated as Africa’s biggest comedy show and it is organised by Globacom to thank its subscribers for their massive support in the past 10 years.- VANGUARD

Dennis Okike wins 10th Ultimate search

The most anticipated answer to who will be the ultimate Champion has been provided for fans of the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS) reality TV show as Dennis Okike emerge the winner of GUS season 10. Dennis Okike has emerged the 10th Ultimate Champion. He outsmarted Dr.Edmund Umeabuani and Ifunanya Onike in the waters of Usaka River, Akwa-Ibom State where the final battle among the warriors fervently seeking for the 10th symbol took place. On the final day of the search, the warriors got a message from the Council of Elders ordering them to pack their bags and make their ways to where they draw water. Chidi awaited them and gave them the next set of instructions. *GUS Winner The final task was to search for the 10th Symbol. To do that, each of them would make use of a clue which would take them to two different locations to retrieve two pieces of the map that would lead to where the 10th Symbol was buried. Another clue at their first locations would direct them to the next location. It was a race against time and the last man to the next location was evicted. Edmund and Ifunanya’s first clue led them to the Place of the Talking Drum to retrieve the first map piece; while Bobby and Dennis went to the Mud Field. Subsequently, Bobby and Dennis headed to the Place of the Talking Drum for their second piece while Edmund and Ifunanya raced to the Mud Field. Edmund returned first, followed by Ifunanya. Dennis edged Bobby out of the quest when he beat him to the finish line. Bobby was instantly evicted. With their maps pieced together, the remaining warriors had all they needed to proceed to find the Sceptre. On their maps three spots were marked ‘X’ as possible places the 10th Symbol was buried. Ifunanya was in the lead, having figured out the direction first. However her first attempt at crossing the river with the aid of a rope saw her falling into the water while Edmund and Dennis moved on. Edmund arrived first and headed straight to one of the spots marked on the map and began his search. Dennis joined shortly. Ifunanya had barely stepped in the river when Dennis raised what turned out to be a false alarm. All he had was a piece of debris laying under the river. The protracted search had the warriors glancing at their maps intermittently as Dennis kept digging up dirt after dirt from the river. After many futile efforts Dennis eventually dug up the Sceptre from under a slant palm tree in the river and thereby ended the long search for the 10th symbol. He was instantly inducted into the order of Heroes as the 10th Ultimate Man by Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor-man. For his feat, Dennis will win N10 million and a brand new Mitsubishi Pajero 3.0L GLS AT( full Option) courtesy of CFAO Motors Nigeria, the official automotive partners of Gulder Ultimate Search 10. For emerging the last female contestant standing, Ifunanya is already guaranteed N1 million in addition to her prize money. In the same vein, Kalu Kalu, a final year student of Industrial Mathematics in the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has emerged as the first winner of the first ever fans edition of Gulder Ultimate Search. The fans edition of Gulder Ultimate Search was hosted by Bob Manuel Udokwu. Gulder gave fans and viewers of the show a chance to compete in Nigeria’s first 100 per cent local content reality TV show from the comfort of their homes.

Latest Update on Gulder Ultimate search

In the past, all the contestants of the Gulder Ultimate search show stayed in one camp, which they built. The contestants apparently had that mindset. But they got to the camp and met something different. They were divided into two camps – Red Camp and Yellow Camp, known as The Swords and The Spears respectively. The tribes have competed in several games, and the Sword tribe has won more tasks than the Spears. The Swords won the first task of ‘Mudby’ made popular in Season 9. It involved playing ‘rugby’ in the mud. Ezugo Egwagwu, winner of GUS1 and Dominic Mudabai, winner of GUS4, were unveiled as Gatekeepers. They were to pick a tribe and motivate and guide them to win as many tasks as possible. The Gatekeepers each tossed a coin to choose the tribes they would mentor. Ezugo picked the Spear tribe which had lost their game the previous day. He reasoned that he could make winners out of them. Dominic went for Swords tribe which he had described as the winning team. The Spears won the second challenge against the Swords tagged ‘Get the Food’. The Swords won the next three challenges: the Fruit Juice and Leaf challenge; The Pyramid and Building Blocks. In the Fruit Juice and Leaf challenge, Mary Adeboye was pitched against her identical twin, Martha; and the former outsmarted the latter. Both had made it clear that they would jettison the spirit of kinship and battle each other for the 10th Symbol. There have also been interesting punishments for members of the Spears, which appears to be the losing tribe. Martha Adeboye was burdened with the stump of shame for her poor performance in the Pyramid challenge. For losing in the building blocks challenge, Brosu Anthony had to walk blindfolded for the rest of the day and had to depend on the guidance of his tribe’s men.CLICK HERE FOR DAILY GULDER ULTIMATE SEARCH 10th EDITION DAILY UPDATE

Baba fryo: my frustration with music

Denge Pose crooner Baba Fryo is still around, very much around. Our reporter recently caught up with him in Tedi Village in Ojo Local government area of Lagos and what could you expect? One of Ajegunle’s finest bared it all. Excerpts:
WHAT is happening to Baba Fryo?
I am living a very simple life and trying to re-arrange myself since my last record label  O’jez Music, frustrated me. I am trying to pick up myself again. If you listen to Peter Tosh in one of his songs he said: “I got to pick up myself, dust myself up, and start all over again.” So, I just want to start all over again as if I have not done music at all. I have some beautiful tracks right now. I will release one on air  as a single.
What do you mean exactly by being frustrated?
My album was delayed for three years. Is that not frustration? Already I have taken my  mind off music. I  was  made to feel as if  I am no longer doing music again. He didn’t make me feel as if I am  still in the industry.
Baba Fryo,Musician
Baba Fryo,Musician

What were the terms of the contract?
For me, I refused to sign any contract when time has been far spent. It took them three years to draft a contract as against when I started  with them spanning one   to  three years.  You are now asking me to sign a  contract. I am not a baby in this industry. That is why today, artistes pay for their songs to be on CD compilation and also pay  the marketer    to sell their  music. The music industry is already corrupt. It has cancer for now.
COSON is paying royalty. Are you a member?
People that are being paid now are members of COSON. I am not a member of COSON but a member of  MCSN.  MCSN and all others  are having issues.  They don’t have time to look for money. Everything about our royalty is pending.  While  I was there, they usually give us something no matter how small. I used to be a member of PMRSN, that is the  former COSON.I left because  they were not working well.
How many albums do you have?
I have three. I am working on the fourth one.
What happened after you released , “Notice Me” and why Notice Me?
Notice Me is  about people who are full of themselves.  You know  my music affects  the lives of people positively. Before the ‘Notice Me song’, there were  a lot of braggarts who pretended  to be what they were  not. When people travel and return from abroad you know how they intimidate people around here .
It was rumoured that the song was an attack on Daddy Fresh?
Well, I will not say it was an attack on Daddy Fresh. In my first song, I said , ‘I want to throw a stone and anybody the stone meets, that’s his own problem. It is a conscience. If you are engaged in ‘notice me’ and I play that song, it will affect you. Many musicians attacked me when I released the song. I will not mention names but they know themselves. Those who put earrings on their noses, ears, tongues, stomachs, everywhere, they attacked me seriously. I give thanks to God for the inspiration. Everybody has what influences what they do.  People feel the kind of songs I compose and I am happy because when I did ‘Denge Pose’, it really affected people positively .
It was rumoured that you made so much money but lavished it, living in hotels?
That is iniquity. I lived in a hotel but I didn’t pay a dime. It was while I was living in  the hotel that  I thought of buying a land. The first land I bought was two plots. When I  realized I didn’t like the area, I  decided to sell  them  and bought other  lands at Okoafo and Amuwo. Living in a  hotel to me is a worthwhile  experience. I experienced  many things .It is not every cloth that is dried in the sun. I spent and I’m still spending. But I  don’t spend anyhow. I still give thanks to God.
What was your experience?
You will see the case of  a nursing mother with her baby coming  to the hotel to sleep with an old man using a walking stick. I have seen some men with pregnant women. Not that the owner of the hotel  supports these things , he dares not see it. Some would come with their child, give the child biscuit and leave him at the reception while they climb upstairs for the amorous romp even in a very hot afternoon. I saw  many iniquities.
Denge Pose, was said to be an attack on Showkey?
Like I said, anybody who thought I was referring to him, then I was referring to him.
What is your relationship with Daddy Showkey now?
We are best of friends. We have talked about the past and realised we have made our mistakes. If we had been working together right from time, I think many Ajegunle artistes would be more successful today. Now that we are working together things are bound to improve for our people.
What do you think about Majek Fashek?
I wasn’t close to Majek. Some  individuals are saying his problem is spiritual.  You cannot ask a sick person to tell you what is wrong with him. He cannot. If you ask Majek, he would tell you its  spiritual. I think Majek needs to go back  in timeto correct his mistakes,  his lifestyle.
You have been in music for sometime but some younger guys have taken over. Do you honestly think you can still make a great comeback?
I believe hundred per cent  that  I will come back with my own pattern. Let me tell you something, some people believe that you must play what these boys are playing before you can make it. No, I disagree. Play something that people will accept. Once people accept what you play, that is all. I listen to  the music they play these days and discovered  they are old pattern. It’s just a small touch that is added. Listen to Flavour. The beat is old, it is the tempo that has been increased. Even the woman that sang ‘Ko si Oba bi re’, is not different from the normal gospel music that was being played in the past. How can Baba Fryo sing like all these small boys? That is iniquity.
What kind of music do you play?
I play Afro reggae beat. That is why when I sing, they would say I sing like Fela. My own pattern is not Afrobeat. If you say Fela did not sing like someone, we  were not his age mates when he was alive. We may not know who was Fela’s mentor or who he sang like. Somebody must imitate somebody.
In other words, Fela influenced your going into music?
Not only Fela. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh,  and Manu Dibango also influenced me.
Do you agree that you are one of those who started lewd songs with Johnny Waka?
No. I disagree because many people have been singing it. What would you say about Fela?
Are you a member of the Jehovah witness as your wife is?
I am everywhere. What I mean is that I stand apart to observe things. I always attend ‘Jehovah Witnesses’ preaching because it is very educative. They don’t go after your money. They don’t need your money. Some pastors call them vendors. If they sell the book, I will be buying it. I have investigated many churches and found out that many of them are full of iniquity. Many exist to exploit people. They have turned all Christ taught upside down. They twist the Bible to suit their own interest. If they have not collected tithes and offerings repeatedly, they are not satisfied. I call them fancy pastors.
What do you do aside music?
I sell lands. I am an Estate agent though I still perform my shows. I just came back from a show in Abuja .
Among the younger ones, which one do you think can last long on the scene?
I think P-Square is good. Those boys are good entertainers. They show other artistes example to follow. Secondly, I think Tuface is trying but I pick P-Square.
When are we expecting your next album?
Wait, you will hear my single this year even my mother is insisting that I sing in my native dialect. So expect to listen to my single in my native dialect with pidgin English to spice it up. It is called, Kpokrikpo.
Since you left AJ, it has not remained the same. Why?
It cannot remain the same because it’s like the pillars have left. We put structures on ground but the people handling it are not doing so well. All of them are following the same pattern which is not good and I was saying this thing when it started. If you listen to Daddy Showkey, you would know it is Showkey. If you listen to Baba Fryo, you would know it is Baba Fryo.

Ditto to Daddy Fresh, Nico Gravity, China Ray.  Apart from Fleckterman who is different, many people followed Femi Oritse style. They want to play like Femi Oritse. So Ajegunle music began to go one way. I was in Ikorodu where they were playing all these Nigerian hip hop music and one lady got annoyed and said they should remove the Ajegunle music because it sounded the same. But our own songs back then were not sounding the same. We laid the foundation but they did not follow it.

Directed by Joseph Ofili, The Journey Begins is a movement geared towards building individuals who understand that mistakes, challenges and setbacks are a crucial part of the human experience and existence as well as young people who possess the strength to embrace them when they happen and the courage to move beyond them to live a worthwhile existence.
Primarily set within a law court setting, this story is delivered through intriguing hybrid of drama, music and dance. Then it follows the trajectory of each character’s peculiar emotional dilemma, leading to a thought provoking resolution, before climaxing into a high energy musical performance. Speaking further on the event, Tim Godfrey, the President of RoX said, “In a time like this, we need to create an atmosphere where we can reach out to our youths with a message even in the midst of the mess, that they can turn a new leaf today, and let The Journey Begins again for them towards a better life.
The event which has been getting endorsements from religious and corporate organizations, promises to be very educating and entertaining.
